POEM
EXPECTING TO FLY
Expecting to Fly was born of earthbound wood. The great maple, producing large knurly burl growths…transformed from primal, raw essence into soft, sweeping rhythms of form. Seductive hips of a female human, the Woodland Goddess, rising through lines of spine and breast, a bird emerges and sweeps into flight.
Connected to our bird brothers
we refuse to forget our wings
we remember we will fly again
in this lifetime or others
released from hands of the Great Carver
each chiseled body finding its own journey
is beckoned homeward
stretching heavenward, like limbs of great maples
reaching for sun and expecting to fly
